Dan Dister's interest in photography began at age 13, it was reinforced with a degree in Professional Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and then put to use during stints with the US Army and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Over time, Dan has continued to shoot film using cameras from 35mm to 8"x10", and to this day still shoots film with several large format cameras from 4"x5" to 5"x7" in size. Dan will share his knowledge of shooting with large format cameras - the pros and cons, the challenges, the parts and functionality of large format cameras and how they work, the process of shooting sheet and roll film, and finally sheet film processing and his hybrid process of scanning and digital printing.
Dan will also bring several of his large format cameras and some of the essential accessories for shooting large format film for a hands on demonstration.
Members and visitors are encouraged to bring any large or medium format cameras they may have or use, so that as Dan says, you can "nerd out" on this type of photography. Digital photographers are welcome, too!
This meeting is open to the general public. You do not need to be a member to attend. It will also be a hybrid meeting, with some of the audience on Zoom. If you are not already a club member and would like to attend via Zoom, please email info@frederickcameraclique.org to request the link. Club members will receive the Zoom link in the first June email blast.
