FCC members! We invite you to join us for our annual summer picnic! This year's picnic will be at Cunningham Falls State Park (Manor Area Shelter) in Thurmont, MD and will include a cookout (hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers) and a potluck featuring some delicious food shared by our club members. Lunch starts promptly at 11 am. If you would like to attend please contact Alison at info@alisonoto.com or (717)253-4532. Please RSVP to bring an appetizer, snack, dessert or anything else you’d like. You should have received an invitation a few weeks ago.

After lunch, we'll enjoy an hour long Scales and Tales presentation by park naturalist Cricket Smith at 1 pm. During the presentation, you'll be able to take photos (without flash). We're expecting Cricket to show us two birds and two reptiles. Then from 2-3pm, we will have the birds out for taking photos.

Parking: At Cunningham Falls State Park is $3.00 for MD residents and $5.00 for out-of-state residents.

July Speaker - Patricia Stockman, photographer and digital artist

Patricia will be focusing on the construction of a digital photo collage using Adobe Photoshop. She will offer examples and instructions of specific functions in Photoshop as well as tips on how to approach creating a photo collage.

The almost limitless possibilities of combining multiple images, changing blending modes, varying lighting effects and use of filters offered by Photoshop has led me to combine images into visual short stories. This layering ability complements the complexities and layering of life experiences and memories. When I am out shooting I see not just individual images, but how what’s in front of me can interact with the stores of images I’ve already collected.

She combines her traditional background with the technology of Photoshop to create images grounded in the fundamentals of art with a contemporary, surreal twist. I place a strong emphasis on the use of texture, color and the interaction of various subjects in one scene. Elements, such as the division of space, suspended pathways, and the repetition of symbolic objects are recurring themes in my work that suggest the past, present and future within a narrative construct.

Patricia has been a photographer for over 20 years. she received her BFA from Salisbury State University (1993) and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Mount Saint Mary’s University (2007). She resides in Frederick Maryland and currently teaches art for Frederick County Public Schools. Her formal education as a traditional photographer has taken her through B&W film processing and printing, while her work experience has taken her through color film processing & printing, photojournalism, and studio portraiture work. Most recently, her teaching career has widened her view of subject matter and digital techniques in her own art.

June 2015 Meeting Speaker Vince Lupo

Vince Lupo has a passion for photography and has wanted to be a professional commercial photographer since he was 12 years old. He earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Photography from Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Ontario and his Master of Fine Arts degree in Still Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.

Vince Lupo specializes in architecture, people, product, and food photography. He’s earned numerous personal and professional photography awards, including two ADDYs.

A combination of technical mastery and creative training has garnered Vince Lupo a reputation as a professional commercial photographer who can capture images that exceed his clients’ visions.

April 2015 Meeting - Jennifer Finley, the Artist Angle

Jennifer Finley of the Artist Angle will join us at our April meeting to discuss and demonstrate the matting and framing of photographs.

Jennifer was born and raised near Baltimore, MD, but has resided in the Frederick area for the last thirty years.

As the owner of Angles Professional Full Service Framing, Jennifer has framed paintings, photographs, books, albums and memorabilia of all types. In addition to framing, she also provides consulting services for creative presentations including framing material, matting recommendations, layouts, mounting solutions, wall locations and arranegments.

Jennifer is also a partner in the Artist Angle, an online gallery and marketing resource business for local artists.

March 2015 Meeting - D.B. Stovall, Large Format Photographer

D. B. Stovall will discuss his extensive collection of large format images. The images span from 1974-1983 and from 2006 to the present. Although some of these images were made in the 1974-1983 timeframe, Stovall started making images again in late 2006.

Large format, usually 4x5, is used for complete image control. The use of large format techniques also complements Stovall’s vision, as it provides a “slower way of seeing” that is particularly appropriate for these subjects. The medium is primarily color transparency, either Ektachrome E100VS or Fuji Velvia for the large format.

D. B. Stovall was born and raised in the Washington, D. C. area. His initial postsecondary education was in photography, and he graduated from RIT in the mid 1970s. He currently is a retired electrical engineer and will provide an introduction to the basics of color management as part of his presentation.
